Most people have barely unwrapped their copy of the just-released first person shooter Pariah, but you can be sure that a sequel is already in the works from developers Digital Extremes.
The Executive Producer for Digital Extremes, James Schmalz, said the company is already working on a Pariah 2 title, and you can expect to see it not on a next-generation console (or consoles), but on today's current machines. Schmalz believes Pariah 2 will be like a "bridge" game between current and future systems.
Schmalz, talking with WHAM! Gaming at the official launch for Pariah, says that a lot of work went into the game (three years) but it was able to be released when it was thanks to a big development team that grew substantially from about 10 people when the game was just in its beginning stages.
He adds that there was some worry about Pariah being released now since there are so many other first person shooters on the market. He believes, though, that Pariah has enough differences in gameplay to set it apart from the other FPS's out there - the big one being the mapmaker. Players can mold and shape landscapes (as opposed to simply adding section after section like in TimeSplitters: Future Perfect's mapmaker) and add items such as vehicles and turrets, then upload everything online to Xbox Live or the Internet. Schmalz says that the time spent on each section of the game was approximately "40% single player, 20% mapmaker and 40% multiplayer."
Pariah was published by Toronto-based Groove Games, making it a true Canadian-content title.
