Yee-haw! It's country karaoke

Thankfully, there's no Simon Cowell in 'CMT Presents: Karaoke Revolution Country'.

As people who know me will tell you, me and country music are like Liberals and Tories. We just don’t get along.

I have nothing against country music at all other than the fact that in general, I am a happy guy and don’t like to be depressed. I confess. I have no idea what “boot scootin’” is and if I did, I would probably apply for a voluntary CAT scan but that’s just me.

In all seriousness, country music is more like pop these days and some of it I can listen to and tolerate but not of my own freewill. For those who do appreciate the genre, Konami’s latest edition in their inventive 'Karaoke Revolution' series will have you cranking the tunes and singing your broken heart out.

Teaming up with Country Music Television, Konami’s country version of ‘Karaoke Revolution’ (CMT Presents: Karaoke Revolution Country) offers a wide selection of tunes players can croon in their own homes if they own a USB microphone or headset. The selections range from “new country” (Does anyone even use that term any more?) ditties such as “Friends In Low Places” by some dude named Garth to old classics like ‘The Gambler” and “I Walk The Line”.

If you have one of those nifty EyeToy USB cameras, you can even create a 3D model of yourself to use in the game instead of using the character tool to make one. If you have two microphones or headsets, you can double the fun and participate in duets or head-to-head competitions.

As with the other ‘Revolution’ games, the object is to wow the audience and faceless cyber judges by singing songs and trying to get all the notes and phrases correct. Thankfully for me, you don’t have to hit the right octave or anything. All you gotta do is follow along to the best of your ability and hold the phases or notes for the appropriate time. Sing well and the crowd will go all Hee-Haw on you. Sing badly and they will react by plugging their ears in abject agony and walking away in droves leaving you singing to the crickets.

Along with the variety of venues to select from, there are one mic and two mic minigames. In them, you use your microphone or headset to control the movement of on-screen characters. There is beach volleyball, a knockout battle game and strangely enough…a stage diving game. Stage diving in country music? I must have missed something.

Country music fans who dream of taking the Grand Ole Opry by storm and aren’t afraid to show off their vocal chords will party on with ‘Karaoke Revolution’. Others, like myself, who just don’t get it, can enjoy the few cheap laughs the game offers.
