Sony not playing over early PSP sales

Sony has started a legal fight with British online gaming companies who are selling versions of the Playstation Portable handheld device before Sony itself, according to Reuters.

Sony delayed releasing the PSP in Europe because of supply shortages, so some physical and online companies have taken it upon themselves to import the handheld devices to Europeans who wanted a head start on the official September 1 release date.

Sony is not happy about this and have made it clear they want the early sales to stop.

"The law is clear, and the activity of parallel importing of PSP products from the U.S./Japan is unlawful. It should be clearly understood that under no circumstances does Sony Computer Entertainment consent to such activities," A spokesman said in a statement.

ElectricBirdLand, a site that is selling the 'grey market' PSPs, received a cease and desist order from Sony recently but the site isn't backing down.

"All we offer is the one thing Sony has failed to do, and that is to give the customer exactly what they want, when they want it," said Dan Morelle, the site's managing director, to Reuters.
