The very first assumption I can promise you you’ll make when playing Shrek 2 is that the actors from the movie are doing all the voice work. You’ll swear it. It’s truly amazing how this game not only has great voice over work, but it manages to mimic the real voice talent to the point of not knowing the difference, and yet most other games can’t even get voice actors who can read lines properly. Give that some thought.
Shrek 2 follows the events of the upcoming sequel, and actually looks like it could be a fun E rated title. Shrek is meeting his in-laws, and they’re none to pleased when they find out their daughter is an ogre, and married to a green monstrosity as well. You’ll be playing the game as one of 4 characters (the 3 principles), and one extra which rotates depending on the level. The interesting thing from a gameplay aspect is that each character has their own special abilities, which must be used to solve puzzles. For example Shrek is obviously a bruiser, and he’ll come in handy when it comes time to smash things.
When you control one character the other 3 are taking care of themselves, and they’ll only attack anything that’s near them, the rest of the time they’ll wait for you to do whatever it is you need to do.
One of the levels we saw involved us protecting the three blind mice as we lead them through the Spooky Forest. The level looked interesting because it wasn’t just a matter of protecting the mice -- because they were attracted to the scent of cheese which was encased in a mouse trap. The mice being blind and all kind of made it difficult for them to discern it was a trap. If you failed to get rid of it in time, all while beating up the enemies they would fall prey, and it would be level over.
E rated games always have a difficult time pleasing older gamers, but it looks like developer Luxoflux Corp is going to create something that everyone can enjoy.
