If there’s ever been a license the cried out to be done properly, Dragon Ball Z is it. There has yet to be a single game released with that property that lives up the hype fans of the show have for anything related to the animated series. Last year’s fighting game on the GBA was a prime example of just how badly the series has been handled by anyone that’s touched it. A horrible title with bad gameplay, and even worse control, that almost made your hair turn gold in anger (inside joke for the fans out there). Atari plans on releasing a new GBA title in the series designed to right the wrongs of Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu and it plans to do it in a few short months. The new title hopes to bring the show's feel, and fun onto the GameBoy Advance.
The game, Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors is being developed by a completely different group of people then the last GBA incarnation of the game, which means there’s at least hope for this title. Giving you the ability to play as just about everyone from the animated series (which will include Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Trunks, Gotenks, Cell, and on and on) you’ll be able to play one on one, three on three, or simple follow a story mode specific to each character.
You’ll be able to fight on the ground, in the air, with much more entertainment and flair then you’re accustomed to with these Dragon Ball Z GBA titles. As you go air born, and come back down to earth, the camera will zoom in and out, as you attempt to pummel each other to victory. You’ll be able to use special attacks built up using a meter, and even unleash deadly combos on your opponents. The very interesting and fun thing comes in the 3 on 3 mode where you can swap characters, and combine their attacks on the fly to REALLY unleash doom and gloom and your enemy.
At the very least everyone can be assured the game won’t be as bad as last year’s outing, which isn’t saying much, but its a step in the right direction. Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors is scheduled for release this May.
